COVID RULES AND GUILDLINES
New exemption for masks (change from the 11/7 guidelines):
Low-risk sports are exempt from wearing masks during active play when participants can consistently maintain at least 14 feet distance from each other throughout the duration of active play (for example, singles tennis)---Doubles tennis players, not from the same household, need to wear a mask because doubles tennis is a net game and it is difficult to maintain at least 14 feet distance consistently from the opponent on the other side.

November 7th, 2020 - The state has updated their COVID-19 guidance for Youth and Amateur Sports Activities, which applies to our club.  Effective today, masks are required to be worn at all times, indoors and outdoors, including during play.  The new guidance says:

Mandatory Facial Coverings for All Sports:
Facility Operators and Activity Organizers must require facial coverings to be worn by all participants during active play except:
• During swimming, water polo, water aerobics or other sports where individuals are in the water; or
• For individuals with a documented medical condition or disability that makes them unable to wear a face covering.
For purposes of this guidance, a facial covering means a face mask or cloth facial covering that completely covers the nose and mouth. Participants should take frequent breaks when they are out of proximity to other players, using caution to avoid touching the front or inside of the face covering by using the ties or ear loops to remove and replace. Participants for all sports must wear facial coverings on the bench at all times and in any huddles or time-outs.
This requirement applies to all spectators and chaperones, coaches, staff, referees, umpires, and other officials.

We will update the various signs around the club over the next few days to reflect this new guidance.

AITA outdoor clay courts to open with restrictions ( indoor courts Open October 1st, 2020 )
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has posted information specific to tennis at their COVID-19 webpage.

Note on Guests
The Board of Directors has agreed to allow members to host guests.  If you bring a guest to the courts, be sure to list your guest on your on-line reservation or on the sign-up sheet in the clubhouse.  An $8 guest fee will be added to your regular monthly bill each time you have a guest.

Compliance with Covid-19 rules is important!  We are still in the pandemic and the club can be shut down by the Board of Health if we fail to comply with mask and social distancing rules!
Covid-19 Measures
  1. If you feel at all ill, do not come to the club!
  2. The Acton Health Director recommended that any members who test positive for coronavirus let their town’s health department know and inform the club.  You can let the club know at actonindoortennis@gmail.com.  The Health Director told us that our on-line reservation system is potentially a valuable tool in contact tracing if a member contracts Covid-19.
  3. The club has purchased and installed touch-free hand sanitizer stands inside the entrance door to the clubhouse and on each of the indoor courts.  Per the Health Director, everyone is required to use hand sanitizer upon entering the clubhouse and on leaving the court.
  4. The club will provide disinfecting wipes in the clubhouse and on the courts.  Members are required to wipe down door knobs and similar high-touch surfaces as they leave the club.
  5. Masks must be worn at all times in the clubhouse.
  6. The clubhouse is small, making social distancing difficult.  Under Massachusetts Covid-19 guidance, only four people are allowed in an area the size of the clubhouse.  This creates problems during court changeovers.  We ask members to minimize their time in the clubhouse by waiting outside until their reserved court time and going directly through the clubhouse and to the courts after the prior group clears the clubhouse.
  7. Between court changeovers, members can use the clubhouse in accordance with Massachusetts guidelines.  Masks must be worn and no more than four people can stay in the clubhouse at one time.  An example of use consistent with Massachusetts guidelines would be a parent waiting in the clubhouse while their child takes a tennis lesson from Ali.  Tables and chairs must be disinfected with wipes or spray if you use the clubhouse.
  8. State guidelines require that the bathrooms be cleaned daily, which is not practical for our member-run club.  Working with the Health Director, we have developed an alternative plan.  We will provide spray bottles with hydrogen peroxide in the bathroom stalls and at the sinks.  Members are required to spray surfaces with hydrogen peroxide after they have used them.
  9. In compliance with Massachusetts state guidelines, the showers in the clubhouse are closed.
  10. The club’s insurance coverage specifically excludes harm from viruses.  In order to protect the club and the club’s directors, we will ask all members, guests, and visitors to sign a Covid-19 release form that holds the club and directors harmless if the member contracts Covid-19.
Tracking Court Time Last year, we transitioned from billing based on the court sign-up sheets in the clubhouse to billing based on the on-line reservations.  That change was quite successful and this year we are going to eliminate the daily sign-in sheets.  Please make your on-line reservations as accurate as possible, being sure to list all members to be billed for court time as well as any guests.  Reservations can be altered up until playing time, but not after.  We will provide a new sign-in sheet in the clubhouse for making corrections or additions to the information in your on-line reservation.  So if you have a last-minute substitution or guest, or play longer than the time you booked, please use that sheet to record your correction.  We will use that information to update the on-line reservation and ensure that billing is correct.
